Wand’rly Magazine Collects Information About You
That’s right, we do. Firstly, we use software called Google Analytics which tells us how many people are visiting our site, what browser they’re using, what country they live in, how long they hang around, stuff like that. It doesn’t tell us your name, phone number or any personally identifying information. A lot of the websites you visit every day also use it. Occasionally, we’ll gather your IP address for things like taking polls, or if you submit a form yourself (such as signing up for our newsletter, filling in a comment form or purchasing a subscription, in which cases you’ve already volunteered info about yourself in the first place). Also, see Display Ads below.
If you live in California, or the European Union, or any other country that has some Internet-killing laws about how we can’t collect cookies or some bullshit like that, we want you to know that we think those laws are stupid like Ernest Goes to Camp. However, you can contact us at any point and we’ll be more than happy to remove your information from our website, and Google Analytics, and anywhere else you ask us to remove it from.
But, your legislators are absolute morons, idiots really, whichever is going to Jupiter to get more stupider, so you should probably write them and tell them you’ll be voting for a piece of burnt toast in the shape of a child’s drawing of Wile E. Coyote after he falls off of a cliff and makes that dust poof. Really, you should.
Mediavine Programmatic Advertising
The Website uses Mediavine to manage all third-party advertising on the Website. Mediavine serves content and advertisements when you visit the Website, which may use first and third-party cookies. A cookie is a small text file which is sent to your computer or mobile device (referred to in this policy as a “device”) by the web server so that a website can remember some information about your browsing activity on the Website. The cookie may collect information relating to your use of the Website, information about your device such as the device’s IP address and browser type, demographic data and, if you arrived at the Website via a link from a third-party site, the URL of the linking page.
First party cookies are created by the website that you are visiting. A third-party cookie is frequently used in behavioral advertising and analytics and is created by a domain other than the website you are visiting. Third-party cookies, tags, pixels, beacons and other similar technologies (collectively, “Tags”) may be placed on the Website to monitor interaction with advertising content and to target and optimize advertising. Each internet browser has functionality so that you can block both first and third-party cookies and clear your browser’s cache. The “help” feature of the menu bar on most browsers will tell you how to stop accepting new cookies, how to receive notification of new cookies, how to disable existing cookies and how to clear your browser’s cache. For more information about cookies and how to disable them, you can consult the information at www.allaboutcookies.org/manage-cookies/.
Without cookies you may not be able to take full advantage of the Website content and features. Please note that rejecting cookies does not mean that you will no longer see ads when you visit our Site.
The Website may collect IP addresses and location information to serve personalized ads and pass it to Mediavine. If you would like more information about this practice and to know your choices to opt-in or opt-out of this data collection, please visit http://www.networkadvertising.org/managing/opt_out.asp. You may also visit http://optout.aboutads.info/#/ and http://optout.networkadvertising.org/# to learn more information about interest-based advertising. You may download the AppChoices app at http://www.aboutads.info/appchoices to opt out in connection with mobile apps, or use the platform controls on your mobile device to opt out.
Mediavine partners with the following data processors:
All of our subscription payments (except those made way back in 2012 – 2014) are handled via Stripe. Your information is sent to them, in order to process your credit card, when you voluntarily fill out the form and add that information to do so. They’re a very reputable company used by millions of websites, and are PCI compliant and all of that fun stuff. If you want us to delete your information from Stripe, login to your paid subscription account here on the website and cancel your account, or email us from the same email address you use on the account, and we’ll be happy to do so for you.
Wand’rly Doesn’t Share Your Information
We don’t sell your information to anyone ever. We won’t SPAM you and if you ever want to unsubscribe from our newsletters, it’s all handled via our own newsletter system, and we’re happy to manually unsubscribe you too, if clicking a link in an email is too much. Just contact us, or reply to the email, and we’ll do so before the next email goes out. Other than with Google Analytics, Stripe and what Mediavine collects, we don’t share your information with any actual humans and only will ever use it with the occasional third party service (like our hosting provider) if we need to for the purposes of running this site, and you specifically write in telling us about a problem you’re having. All payment information on the site is handled via Stripe. You can also contact us directly if you have any questions whatsoever. Also, see Display Ads above.
