Handbook: Quintana Roo

Cenotes.

There are many things to appreciate about the southwestern peninsula of Mexico’s vastness. Hip Tulum. The cruise ship overboard of Cancun and Cozumel, and indeed the real city of Cancun and what it has to offer in the way of juxtapositioning itself against the coast resorts. How one man may make a million in a day compared to another man’s lifetime’s worth, and the only difference is a few blocks away from the coast. And Chetumal and the little hideaway campgrounds for overlanders and all the history of the ancient people who grew a civilization of pyramid life here long before the Spanish arrived.

But. Cenotes. Underground pools of all varieties, some tamed to the tune of a few pesos and a resort accompanying. Some secret and hidden in the jungle still waiting for adventurous young folks–who know how to swim and see in the dark–to discover.
